Factoids

  • The 100 rare cards to be foiled were selected according to a variety of criteria, including placement in a player survey, image suitability for foiling, gameplay (cards that would stay in play on the table where the foiling could be appreciated had an edge), and diversity of affiliations.
  • The range of expansions from which the foils were chosen was cut off with The Dominion, since Blaze of Glory already had a foil subset.
  • The case and box toppers were chosen from cards that were not eligible for the 100-card foil set (which was all rare cards) because they had appeared only in a preview or premium version or – in the case of 100,000 Tribbles (Clone) – appeared after the Dominion cutoff.
  • Because the foils were reprints, the opportunity was taken to implement existing errata and correct typos wherever possible. For example, Premiere missions that had been declared in the rules to belong to later-established regions of space had the regional information added to their lore; and Major Rakal got "Deanna Troi" bolded in her lore.
  • In addition to errata, many cards had slightly updated templates and reflowed text.
  • Two cards that appeared to have errata unfortunately had had errors introduced into their text: Kira Nerys and Admiral Riker. The original versions, however, were the correct ones. Evan Lorentz explained how this occurred.
  • The non-foil cards in the packs came from a variety of sources, including booster packs, Two-Player Game decks, Deep Space Nine starters, and even a few boutique products like Enhanced First Contact.

Notable Cards

The big chase card: Seven of Nine. Although she appeared as a preview in The Dominion, the "final" version would not show up until The Borg expansion. Available only as the topper in a full case (six displays) of Reflections, the foil Seven of Nine proved elusive to many collectors. ("The Borg" version shown.)

Some cards just plain look great as foils. And that was definitely an important criterion for selecting the cards to be foiled for Reflection, perhaps particularly so in the case of missions which will be highly visible on the spaceline. Quite a few of the early missions were rather ho-hum images, but Investigate Rumors was anything but that. Eye-catching in its original Deep Space Nine form, the foil practically glowed.
