Factoids

  • 18 rare cards were also produced in foil versions, replacing the rare in approximately 1 in 9 packs (roughly 3 or 4 per box). The foils themselves had differing rarities, with 4 Ultra-Rare foils (URF), 6 Super Rare foils (SRF), and 8 Very Rare foils (VRF). Each individual foil's frequency was about 1:106 packs (VRF), 1:225 packs (SRF), or 1:450 packs (URF).
  • Originally intended to be part of The Dominion expansion, the "battle expansion" was ultimately split off into its own set. Other names were contemplated – notably A Call to Arms – before Blaze of Glory was finally selected. On the message boards it was informally known as "BaH!" (Klingon for "Fire!").
  • Two cards, Kavok and Commandeer Ship, sported a property logo from a somewhat less well-known property than any of the TV series – Star Trek: A Klingon Challenge. The images were taken from an interactive VCR board game of that name, produced by Decipher in 1993. Kavok was played by Robert O'Reilly, the actor who portrayed Gowron throughout The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine.
  • The first Blaze of Glory pre-release tournament, held at Gen Con on August 7, 1999, drew 100 players, the largest Star Trek CCG tournament to date. It would have been even larger, but several would-be players had to be turned away due to lack of available booster packs and the special Battle Bridge side decks supplied to each player. Dan Allman took away the victory and a complete 18-card foil subset.

Notable Cards

The Deep Space Nine expansion introduced most of the main "ops crew" characters from the series, with the notable exception of Miles O'Brien. Although a Next Gen version of Miles had been included in the Fajo Collection, Miles fans had to wait until Blaze of Glory to get his DS9 persona. Oddly enough, Romulan fans of Miles got a their own O'Brien at the same time, the holographic Chief O'Brien who was "killed" repeatedly by Geordi La Forge during his brainwashing.

One of the most popular cards in the set was the Klingon "Blood Oath" Jadzia Dax. With stunning attributes and an array of valuable skills – and the ability to boost all the attributes of her Klingon buddies Kang, Kor, and Koloth – Jadzia was a perfect addition to any Klingon deck in either plain or foil version.
