Matthew Frid Captures Star Trek CCG Title!
In Day 2 of the Star Trek CCG World Championships,
Matthew Frid played and beat Hayes Hunter. Both advanced to Day 3, and this
time when the two faced off during the 6-round semifinals, Hayes took the
round from Matthew. When the six rounds were over, these two were at the
top. In the end, Matthew's Klingon/Cardassian strength deck bested Hayes'
TNG Federation deck in two consecutive matches, winning him the title of
first Star Trek CCG Second Edition World Champion.

(L-R) Finalist Matthew Frid, judge John Breeden, finalist
Hayes Hunter.
Frid, an IT professional from South St. Paul, Minnesota, started
playing First Edition STCCG in 2000, moving on to Second Edition as soon
as it launched. "I just want to give a big shout out to all my guys
on Team Beaucoup and the Big Goodbye," he said after his victory. "Behind
the champ is a good team. I'm proud of Minnesota we took a lot of
titles this weekend." Indeed, with three Minnesota players in Day 3,
plus Maiden Voyage and Race to the Alpha Quadrant victories to their credit.
Many of his Minnesota buddies cheered from the front row of the viewing
room when Matt's second win clinched the title.

And what is Matthew married, with a seven-month-old
son going to do with his $5000 winnings? That was easy "I'm
going to buy new windows for my house!"
Congratulations to our new World Champion!
